Dream Create Inspire — Making Art Happen

The Dream Create Inspire Cycle

I made it through the entire dream create inspire cycle this week! Woohoo! Often I get stuck somewhere along the way. I dream up more projects than any human could possibly create. Then I get stuck because I don’t know where to begin. It’s just overwhelming. Sigh …

The Dream Create Inspire Cycle

So, let me tell you how this little piece of postcard art got created. The whimsical character on a box of Kleenex caught my eye a while ago so I saved it to my stash. Actually I left it out on my desk in full view.

Then a few days later, the phrase came to me.

If there is no sure thing, anything is possible!

But … we were getting ready for vacation. There was no time to complete the postcard before we were to leave the next day. Psyched about the image in my head, I woke up extra early on departure day.

I had just enough time to scrape on the acrylic paint background, speed dry it with my heat gun and glue down the image with gel medium. When that was dry, I carefully folded a piece of wax paper around the postcard, stuck a couple pieces of masking tape for the text onto the wax paper; then gathered up a few other small supplies and tools to tuck into a plastic bag.

Dream Create Inspire Travelogue

Gathering up small supplies and tools turned out to be the key for me: limiting the available supplies limited the creative possibilities. That might seem a bad thing in a way, but it helped me to focus and get creative using just what was on hand.

So, if you’re stuck creatively, try it. It might work for you too!

Hotel Room in Matehuala, Mexico: I glittered the torn edges of the image with silver Wink of Stella glitter pen and pressed the strips of masking tape in place. Then I gave the postcard two coats of Glossy Accents. (I chose Studio Gloss for sealing because it’s in a tiny bottle.)

Hotel Room in Kerrville, TX: I hand lettered the text with black Pitt pen.

Hotel Room in San Antonio, TX: Finally, I added some doodles and highlights with white Gelly Roll pen.

I had mixed emotions when I dropped this little guy in the mailbox. After all, he had traveled so far with me on an interesting creative journey.

Dream Create Inspire with Scrap Girls’ Digital Scrapbooking Day II

It was so nice, they’re doing it twice! The powers-that-be of the digital scrapbooking world decided that DSD should fall back an entire month this year. So we celebrated it the first Saturday in October.

Scrap Girls feared that not everyone got the memo and may have missed out on all the fun:

  • Chats,
  • Challenges,
  • Prizes,
  • Discounts and
  • Fun!

So they called October 1st “DSD Sneak Peek Day” and today they’re having the full DSD celebration. Isn’t that sweet? Click to learn more.
