Clay Cross Stitch Cat Made With Eva's Marshmallow Clay Recipe

Eva shared photos of this 12 x 16.5-inch mosaic clay cross stitch cat made with her original air-dry marshmallow clay recipe. Then she kindly offered to share the marshmallow clay recipe as well. Read how Eva created the Clay Cross Stitch Cat Plaque.

Typically, the term marshmallow clay refers to a soft cloud-like consistency air-dry clay like Crayola Model Magic or to little clay charms and figurines that look like marshmallow candy but are made from polymer clay.

Eva has taken the term marshmallow clay to a new level and uses real marshmallows in her air-dry marshmallow clay recipe!

Eva’s Marshmallow Clay Recipe

  • 1/2 cup Elmer’s Glue-All
  • 1 tsp. marshmallow cream
  • 8 mini marshmallows
  • 1 tsp. peppermint extract
  • 3 heaping tbsp. cornstarch

Combine glue, marshmallow cream, mini marshmallows and mint extract in a microwave-safe bowl.

Heat in microwave for 10-second intervals, mixing between intervals, until marshmallows have melted. Mixture should be smooth and will be very hot.

Immediately add cornstarch and mix vigorously until mixture thickens. Add more cornstarch if needed.

Microwave for 5 to 7 seconds more.

Wrap tightly in plastic wrap and let cool. Store in a tightly-closed container in a dark place

You can mix in Play-Doh or food coloring to tint the marshmallow clay. Eva has also added fine glitter. This marshmallow clay dries very hard with no cracks or warping.

  1. For the marshmallow clay, how much does this recipe make?

I honestly thought you had put the wrong picture with this post until I went and read the original post. This is amazing!

    • Eileen Bergen says:

How funny, Cyndi. I agree – simply amazing. I calculated that Eva cut almost 1300 tiny clay tiles to create the 12 x 16.5 inch cat mosaic!
